The University of Louisiana at Lafayette reported a 0.3% rise in in-state tuition fees for the 2022-23 school year, as per the latest figures released, according to the latest disclosure from the National Center for Education Statistics.

Louisiana residents enrolled at the public university paid $10,382 this year, an increase of $36 from the $10,346 charged during the 2021-22 academic year.

Non-resident students faced tuition costs 132.2% higher than those for residents in 2022-23, amounting to $24,110. This represented a slight 0.1% increase from the $24,074 fee in 2021-22.

Approximately 96% of the undergraduate student body at the university are Louisiana residents, with around 3% coming from other states and 1% being international students.

Data indicates that 96% of full-time undergraduates who began studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2022-23 received some form of financial aid. A total of 2,594 students obtained grants or scholarships amounting to $28.2 million, while 1,517 students secured student loans exceeding $9.5 million.

Across the entire undergraduate population, 9,421 students benefited from grants or scholarships totaling $92.4 million. Additionally, 5,645 students borrowed $35 million in federal student loans.

Undergraduate education costs have seen a significant increase over the past few decades. Data shows a 169% rise in the average total cost, including tuition, fees, room, and board, between 1980 and 2020.

According to a 2023 College Board report, in-state students at public universities paid an average of $11,260, while out-of-state students paid $29,150 in the 2023-24 academic year.

Meanwhile, student loan debt has steadily increased over the last 30 years, reaching $1.75 trillion in 2024, averaging a total of $28,950 per borrower. Federal loans make up 92% of the debt, with over half of students at both public and private four-year colleges graduating with student loans.
