The University of Louisiana at Lafayette has named more than 200 first-time freshmen as President’s Top Scholars.
UL Lafayette designates incoming freshmen who were high school valedictorians and/or scored a 32 or higher on the ACT as Top Scholars each fall semester. A total of 209 earned the honor this year.
The Fall 2022 freshman class is the largest in five years and among the most academically accomplished in University history. The class includes 135 high school valedictorians, and its members averaged a cumulative high school GPA of 3.41, noted Dr. Joseph Savoie, UL Lafayette president.
“Students of this caliber have many options when choosing where to pursue a degree. That they have chosen to join us reflects the reputation we have for academic excellence. They want to be challenged and are coming here to strengthen the already solid foundation they built in high school,” he said.
The University recognized its Top Scholars on Nov. 17 with a reception at the President’s House. Honorees received a medal and certificate.
