Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) has expressed his support for the new Louisiana National Guard (LANG) readiness center being built in Lafayette, Louisiana. The facility, which began construction earlier this month, was authorized through a $33 million allocation in last year’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Higgins, who is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, played a role in securing these funds as part of his efforts to address Louisiana’s priorities.
Higgins stated, “The Louisiana National Guard is a crucial component of America’s national security. I’ve been honored to advocate for them on the House Armed Services Committee. Last week’s groundbreaking of the new readiness center in Lafayette marks a proud moment for our community and the state of Louisiana. I’m excited to see the Lafayette readiness center come to fruition, and I will continue to work closely with the Louisiana National Guard to deliver on priorities for our state.”
In addition to supporting military infrastructure projects like the readiness center, Congressman Higgins has participated directly with LANG personnel. Earlier this fall, he joined LANG soldiers on foot patrol in Washington D.C., an operation that was part of former President Trump’s initiative to restore order in the capital.
Clay Higgins has represented Louisiana’s 3rd district in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Charles Boustany. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the Louisiana House of Representatives. Born in New Orleans in 1961, Higgins is currently 61 years old and resides in Lafayette.
