Lafayette Parish residents can take advantage of Lafayette Consolidated Government and Acadiana Waste Services' Debris Drop-Off Day on March 9, 2024. This event will provide an opportunity for residents to dispose of items that are not typically collected curbside or that cannot fit into a regular waste cart.

According to LCG Environmental Quality Manager Bess Foret, "LCG wants to help citizens properly dispose of some items that you may not always get picked up curbside or that can't fit into your cart." She also highlighted the collaborative effort with organizations like AWS, Habitat for Humanity, and Bike Lafayette to divert waste from landfills and explore opportunities for reuse and recycling.

Debris Drop-Off Day is scheduled to take place on March 9, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at two locations: Brown Park and Robicheaux Center. Residents are encouraged to bring items such as old tires, wood, metal, furniture, appliances, carpet, construction debris, and other large household items. Participants should be prepared to assist in unloading their items for disposal.

While the event welcomes various items for disposal, certain materials such as batteries, chemicals, and compressed gas cylinders will not be accepted due to disposal restrictions. Attendees will receive information sheets with guidelines on how to dispose of excluded items and arrange for the collection of large household items at their homes.

Residents residing in the unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish and the City of Lafayette are eligible to participate in the Debris Drop-Off Day. Individuals must present a valid I.D. and be willing to help unload all items. Business waste will not be accepted at the event.

For more information and a detailed list of acceptable items, residents can visit the official website at https://lafayettela.gov/public-works/debris-drop or contact 337-291-8529.
