Lafayette Parish is set to observe Halloween on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Trick-or-treating will be allowed from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on that day.
The Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) emphasizes safety during the festivities and has issued guidelines for a secure and enjoyable Halloween experience. They advise carrying flashlights or glow sticks and using reflective materials on costumes to enhance visibility. Alternatives like face paint and decorative hats are recommended over masks that could obstruct vision.
LCG also suggests wearing flame-retardant costumes and using cardboard props to prevent injuries. Children should travel in groups under adult supervision, stick to sidewalks, stay in familiar neighborhoods, and only approach homes with porch lights on. It's important for adults to inspect treats before children consume them and to give or accept only wrapped candy.
Drivers are urged to exercise caution in areas where trick-or-treaters may be present. For adults attending parties, LCG advises planning ahead regarding alcohol consumption and not driving under the influence.
While LCG acknowledges Halloween as a community tradition rather than a government event, they collaborate with the Lafayette Police Department to promote public safety awareness during this time. However, LCG does not regulate Halloween activities or dictate when they should occur, allowing neighborhoods the flexibility to choose alternate dates if desired.
In addition, the Lafayette Police Department will host its 8th annual Trunk or Treat event at Girard Park on Wednesday, October 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., offering families a safe environment for celebration with treats and activities.
LCG extends wishes for a safe Trick-or-Treating experience and a Happy Halloween to all residents.
