Senator John Kennedy and other members of the Louisiana delegation have called on President Biden to expedite Governor Jeff Landry's request for an emergency declaration following a terrorist attack on Bourbon Street. The delegation includes House Speaker Mike Johnson, Senator Bill Cassidy, and Representatives Steve Scalise, Clay Higgins, Julia Letlow, and Troy Carter.

In their appeal, the lawmakers emphasized the urgency of approving the request under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. "We respectfully request expedited approval of Governor Jeff Landry’s request for an emergency declaration for the State of Louisiana," they stated.

The attack has resulted in significant casualties and disruptions. "This terrorist attack caused significant harm to our visitors and residents, disrupted essential services, and overwhelmed local and state resources," they continued. The timing of the incident coincides with major events such as the Sugar Bowl and preparations for Super Bowl LIX.

The assault led to at least 14 fatalities along with injuries and damage to infrastructure including transportation routes in New Orleans' downtown area.

Additionally, the delegation reached out to Small Business Administration Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzman seeking disaster loans for affected businesses in New Orleans. "SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans would provide these businesses with much-needed financial relief," they wrote, stressing the importance of this support for French Quarter businesses.
