Kennedy announces FEMA grants totaling over $23 million for Louisiana disaster aid

Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana has announced the allocation of $23,346,471 in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grants to support disaster aid in Louisiana. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Kennedy emphasized the importance of these funds in preparing the state for future floods.

"Communities across Louisiana are working hard to prepare our state for future floods. This $23.3 million will help Louisiana withstand storms by elevating or demolishing flood-prone structures and installing generators," stated Kennedy.

The FEMA funding is designated for several projects across various parishes:

- The Louisiana Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness will receive $5,693,265 for purchasing and installing 26 generators at the Port of New Orleans, five generators at the New Orleans Public Belt, two generators in Monroe, and six in Tensas Parish.

- Jefferson Parish is allocated $3,783,382 to elevate 22 structures.

- Rapides Parish will use $2,499,498 to elevate 13 structures and acquire one additional structure.

- East Feliciana Parish receives $2,405,700 for acquiring and installing 25 generators.

- Grant Parish is granted $2,294,125 for acquiring and installing 27 generators.

- The Governor's Office also receives an additional $1,767,926 for purchasing and installing 52 generators to provide backup power to State Police emergency radio communication tower sites.

- Jefferson Parish will get another $1,620,675 to elevate 11 structures.

- Vernon Parish has been allocated $1,453,775 for acquiring and installing 14 generators.

- Plaquemines Parish receives $1,024,937 for purchasing and installing a stormwater pump station standby generator.

Additional funds have been designated for management costs associated with these projects across multiple parishes including Jefferson Parish ($209,704), Rapides Parish ($138,861), East Feliciana Parish ($120,285), Grant Parish ($114,706), Vernon Parish ($72,689), and Plaquemines Parish ($56,941).
