Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana has announced the allocation of $37,425,524 in grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to aid in disaster recovery efforts across the state. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Kennedy detailed how these funds will support infrastructure repair and recovery following damage caused by Hurricanes Laura and Ida.

"Hurricane Laura badly damaged infrastructure in Jefferson Davis and Cameron Parishes, and Ida hit communities like New Orleans hard the next year. This $37.4 million will help our state cover the costs that Louisiana electrical facilities and hospitals sustained because of these storms," stated Kennedy.

The FEMA grants are designated for specific recovery projects within the state. A total of $33,941,078 is allocated to the Jefferson Davis Electric Cooperative for emergency protective measures in Jefferson Davis and Cameron Parishes as a result of Hurricane Laura. Additionally, $3,484,446 is earmarked for the Ochsner Clinic Foundation to facilitate repairs at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans following Hurricane Ida.

These funds aim to assist Louisiana's ongoing recovery efforts by addressing critical infrastructure needs that arose from these severe weather events.
