Lafayette, LA – With ongoing blizzard conditions, the Lafayette Consolidated Government and the Lafayette Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP) have advised residents without sufficient heating to seek shelter at the warming center immediately. Officials recommend using daylight hours for travel as road conditions may worsen with falling temperatures and accumulating snow.
The Dupuis Recreation Center, located at 1212 E. Pont Des Mouton Road in Lafayette, serves as a refuge for those experiencing homelessness or lacking adequate heat. The center provides warm meals, bedding, and allows pets, all coordinated with community partners. "By seeking refuge now, you can help ensure your safety while avoiding potential hazards on the roads later," officials noted.
Transportation to the warming center is available for anyone in Lafayette Parish by calling 211. The facility will remain open until temperatures rise above freezing.
Authorities emphasize working together to maintain safety during this cold spell. They urge residents needing assistance to act promptly and utilize this essential service.
