Lafayette, LA – The Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) has issued updates on public services amid severe weather conditions affecting the region. Ice and snow continue to create hazardous travel conditions across Lafayette Parish as temperatures drop, causing refreezing of melted snow overnight. LCG has committed to providing daily updates as new information emerges.

The Lafayette Transit System will remain suspended through Thursday, January 23, 2025. This decision is made in light of record-breaking freezing temperatures to ensure the safety of passengers and drivers. Normal operations will resume once road conditions improve.

A warming shelter is available at the Dupuis Recreation Center located at 1212 E. Pont Des Mouton Road for individuals who are unhoused or lack adequate heating. Those needing transportation to the shelter can call 211 for assistance.

Acadiana Waste Services (AWS) has also suspended residential waste collection until Thursday, January 23, 2025, due to regional transfer stations and landfills being closed. AWS plans to implement a recovery plan starting Friday, January 24, to manage the backlog of residential waste. Updates on service restoration will be provided when available.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed as LCG continues to navigate this challenging weather event.
