Lafayette updates: transit halted; trash service resumes; warming shelter open

Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) has issued updates regarding public services for Friday, January 24, 2025. The Lafayette Transit System will continue to be suspended due to icy road conditions. This measure aims to ensure the safety of both passengers and drivers. Operations are expected to resume once the roads are deemed safe. For the latest transit schedule updates, residents can contact 337-291-8570.

Acadiana Waste Services (AWS) is set to resume curbside residential trash collection on January 24, focusing on clearing residential trash by utilizing all available resources. Other curbside services such as recycling and yard waste remain suspended for now. Trash collection for Tuesday and Wednesday routes will occur on Friday, while Thursday and Friday routes will be serviced on Saturday, January 25. Normal operations are anticipated to resume on Monday, January 27. Inquiries about AWS collection services can be directed to 337-205-7710.

The Dupuis Recreation Center continues to function as a warming shelter for those without adequate heating or housing. Transportation assistance to the shelter is available by calling 211.

City-Parish administrative offices will stay closed through January 24 and plan to reopen on Monday, January 27. Parks and recreation centers under LCG will also remain closed until Saturday, January 25.
