Kennedy announces FEMA grants totaling over $17 million for Louisiana disaster recovery

Senator John Kennedy has announced a significant allocation of federal funds aimed at supporting flood mitigation and emergency preparedness in Louisiana. The total amount of $17,860,797 comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and is designated for various projects across the state.

Kennedy emphasized the importance of these initiatives, stating, "Our communities depend on projects to help them prepare for storms and recover from disasters. This $17.9 million will help Louisianians with flood mitigation, emergency generators and permanent repairs after Hurricanes Ida and Laura."

The breakdown of the FEMA grants includes several key allocations:

- Lake Charles will receive $7,239,362 for permanent repairs to the Purple Heart Recreation Center and Gymnasium due to damage caused by Hurricane Laura.

- St. John the Baptist Parish is set to receive $3,632,990 for elevating 21 residential structures.

- The Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness will be allocated $1,908,921 for installing two permanent generators in Monroe.

- An additional $1,906,342 is earmarked for management costs in St. John the Baptist Parish as a result of Hurricane Ida.

- Livingston Parish will benefit from $1,492,935 dedicated to replacing the Lod Stafford Road Bridge following Hurricane Ida.

- Winn Parish is allocated $1,421,300 for installing 15 emergency power generator systems.

- Management costs associated with elevating residential structures in St. John the Baptist Parish will receive funding of $201,832.

- Finally, Winn Parish will also receive $57,115 for management costs related to their generator installations.

These funds are intended to bolster infrastructure resilience against future natural disasters while aiding recovery efforts from past hurricanes.
