Senators John Kennedy and Jim Risch have introduced the Simplifying Subcontracting Act, a legislative proposal aimed at making federal subcontracting applications more accessible by requiring them to be written in plain language. This initiative seeks to address the challenges small businesses face when navigating complex government contract applications.
"Government agencies speak an entirely different language from the American people. The Simplifying Subcontracting Act would help Louisiana’s small business owners better compete for contracts by ending Washington’s bureaucratic terminology in the application process," stated Senator Kennedy.
Senator Risch emphasized the importance of small businesses to the economy and noted that complicated bureaucratic language often excludes them from federal contracting opportunities. "Small businesses are vital to our economy but are often left out in federal government contracting due to overly complicated, bureaucratic language. The Simplifying Subcontracting Act requires certain federal government contracts to use plain language, enabling more small businesses to compete for these contracts," he said.
The bill has garnered support from other senators, including Mike Crapo, Todd Young, and John Hickenlooper. Kennedy had previously supported this legislation during the 118th Congress when it received approval from the Senate Small Business Committee.
