Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana has announced an allocation of over $32.4 million in FEMA grants aimed at providing disaster aid to the state. This financial support is designated for recovery efforts following the hurricanes Laura and Ida.
"Louisiana is working hard to rebuild from the catastrophic damage that Hurricanes Laura and Ida left behind. This $32.4 million will help our communities recover from the costs they sustained during these disasters," stated Kennedy.
Funds from FEMA have been directed to several key areas. St. John the Baptist Parish will receive $13,358,873 specifically for debris removal following Hurricane Ida. The Terrebonne Parish School Board is set to gain $6,209,552 for management costs and an additional $5,286,570 for permanent repairs, both related to Hurricane Ida's impact.
West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital is allotted $1,725,740 for permanent repair work due to damage from Hurricane Laura. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is receiving $1,562,360 to aid in debris removal also stemming from Hurricane Laura.
The Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal District will be awarded $1,515,422 to replace equipment that was damaged by the hurricane. Jefferson Parish School Board is set to receive $1,415,716 for repairs at Ralph J. Bunche Elementary School caused by Hurricane Ida. Lastly, the Orleans Levee District Non-Flood Protection Asset Management Authority will get $1,312,558 for permanent repairs after damage inflicted by Hurricane Ida.
