Senator John Kennedy, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced today that $4,287,667 in FEMA grants will be provided for disaster aid to regions in Louisiana affected by Hurricanes Laura and Ida. The funds are intended to support infrastructure repairs in various communities.

The senator expressed the significance of these funds in aiding the recovery efforts. “Hurricanes Laura and Ida devastated important infrastructure across south Louisiana. This $4.3 million will help communities like Jefferson and St. John the Baptist Parishes restore education and sewerage facilities, and aid Lake Charles with Hurricane Laura repairs,” stated Kennedy.

The funding will be allocated for specific projects across different localities. The city of Lake Charles will receive $1,681,034 for repairs to communication towers damaged by Hurricane Laura. The Jefferson Parish School System is set to receive $1,598,591 for repairing the Thomas Jefferson High School for Advanced Studies campus, which was affected by Hurricane Ida. Additionally, $1,008,042 will be directed to St. John the Baptist Parish for the repair of sewer lift stations also damaged by Hurricane Ida.
