Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) has expressed support for President Trump’s recent announcement of a shipbuilding partnership that includes the construction of Arctic Security Cutters at Bollinger Shipyards in Houma, Louisiana.
President Trump and Finland’s President Alexander Stubb met at the White House, where they signed a $6.1 billion memorandum of understanding for the U.S. Coast Guard to acquire 11 icebreaker ships. Of these, six will be built by Bollinger and its partners, with four constructed at the Houma facility. The ships are intended to help secure the Arctic Ocean for the United States and its allies.
Congressman Higgins, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, has been a consistent advocate for Louisiana’s defense industry and domestic shipbuilding investments. Higgins stated, “The world’s oceans would not be secure without Louisiana shipbuilders like Bollinger. Four brand new icebreaker vessels will be built in Houma, supporting hundreds of jobs in South Louisiana. Thank you, President Trump, for your commitment to strengthen our domestic shipbuilding industry.”
Higgins has served in the U.S. Congress representing Louisiana’s 3rd district since 2017, after replacing Charles Boustany. Before his time in Congress, he served in the Louisiana House of Representatives. Higgins was born in New Orleans in 1961 and currently lives in Lafayette.
