WASHINGTON – In a significant development, Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, revealed today that Louisiana will receive a substantial grant of $5,148,857 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for disaster aid. This grant aims to support the recovery efforts of Louisianians in Calcasieu Parish and across the state who have been affected by flooding and to bolster their preparedness for future disasters.
Expressing his appreciation, Sen. Kennedy stated, “I’m grateful to see this $5.1 million help Louisianians in Calcasieu Parish and all over our state recover from flooding and prepare for future disasters."
The FEMA aid package will be allocated to various initiatives, including:
- A generous amount of $3,362,076 will be provided to Calcasieu Parish. These funds will be utilized to elevate 14 residential properties that have been vulnerable to flooding, ensuring their protection from future disaster risks. Additionally, two structures will be demolished as part of this project.
- Calcasieu Parish will also receive $186,782 to cover management costs related to the mitigation of 16 flood-prone structures. These measures will help reduce the impact of future floods and enhance the safety of the community.
- The state of Louisiana will receive $1,599,999 to update the State of Louisiana Hazard Mitigation Plan. This vital plan will be revised to reflect the lessons learned from previous disasters and will serve as a comprehensive guide for effective disaster management in the future.
