Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) has introduced the Emergency Advance Payments Modernization Act, a bill aimed at improving the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) response to natural disasters and expediting advance payments for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The bill seeks to modernize FEMA's technology to enable faster issuance of advance payments to families affected by natural disasters.

In a statement, Sen. Kennedy emphasized the importance of timely assistance for families in the aftermath of natural disasters: "When natural disasters strike, the last thing Louisiana families can afford to do is wait around for FEMA to issue an advance payment before they can begin the recovery process. My bill would help ensure FEMA has the tools it needs to rapidly issue advance payments for flood insurance claims so that families get the money they need to recover from disasters when it counts."

The bill was also introduced in the House of Representatives by Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-N.Y.).
