Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) has announced $3,688,797 in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grants for Louisiana disaster aid. The funds will be allocated to assist with recovery efforts in Lake Charles and Calcasieu Parish following the devastation caused by Hurricane Laura.

Kennedy expressed his support for the allocation, stating, "Louisianians in Lake Charles and the rest of Calcasieu Parish are still working hard to recover from Hurricane Laura. I'm glad this $3.7 million will help them continue to do just that."

The FEMA aid will be distributed as follows:

- $1,521,262 will be provided to Lake Charles, Louisiana, to repair damages to the city hall and offices that were caused by Hurricane Laura.

- $1,115,786 will be allocated to Lake Charles, Louisiana, for the restoration of Nelson Road Park, which suffered damage as a result of the hurricane.

- $1,051,749 will be granted to the Calcasieu Parish School Board to repair damages to DeQuincy Middle School caused by Hurricane Laura.

These funds will play a crucial role in facilitating the recovery and rebuilding efforts in the affected areas. The allocation to the city hall and offices will ensure that essential government services can be restored, while the restoration of Nelson Road Park will provide residents with a much-needed recreational space.

The grant awarded to the Calcasieu Parish School Board will aid in the repair of DeQuincy Middle School, allowing students and educators to return to a safe and functional learning environment.

Hurricane Laura, which made landfall in August 2020, caused significant destruction and left many communities grappling with the aftermath. The allocation of these funds demonstrates the ongoing commitment to supporting the recovery of affected areas and assisting residents in their journey towards normalcy.

As recovery efforts continue, Sen. John Kennedy's announcement of $3.7 million in FEMA grants serves as a beacon of hope for the residents of Lake Charles and Calcasieu Parish. It is a testament to the dedication and perseverance of the community, as well as the support and assistance provided by federal agencies.

The road to recovery may be long, but with the aid of these funds, Lake Charles and Calcasieu Parish will be one step closer to rebuilding their homes, schools, and local infrastructure.
