Sen. John Kennedy Announces $35.1 million in Hurricane Laura, Ida Aid for South Louisiana

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, has announced $35,144,139 in grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for disaster aid in Louisiana. The funding aims to assist in the recovery efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricanes Laura and Ida in various parts of south Louisiana.

The FEMA aid will be allocated to several projects to address specific needs resulting from the hurricanes:

- Jefferson Davis Electric Cooperative will receive $30,690,495 to fund an emergency generator power substation required due to Hurricane Laura.

- The Southwest Louisiana Hospital Association will be granted $2,031,388 for management costs resulting from Hurricane Laura.

- The Terrebonne Parish School Board will receive $1,344,204 for the permanent restoration of the Bayou Black Elementary, Broadmoor, Montegut Middle, and Montegut Elementary school campuses, which were damaged by Hurricane Ida.

- Jefferson Parish will be granted $1,078,052 to repair damages to the Rosethorne Playground resulting from Hurricane Ida.

These grants aim to address the urgent needs of the affected communities and help rebuild critical infrastructure. The funding will support the restoration of essential services such as electricity, healthcare, and education, as well as repair damages to public spaces.
