Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) has announced that southwest Louisiana will receive $24,078,966 in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grants for disaster aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Laura. The funding will be used to support the rebuilding efforts in the affected communities.
"Hurricane Laura battered southwest Louisiana. I'm grateful to see Lake Charles and other communities receive this $24.1 million to rebuild," said Kennedy.
The allocated FEMA aid will be distributed to various entities to address the damages caused by the hurricane. The Cameron School Board Office will receive $12,825,813 to replace the South Cameron High School gymnasium, which was severely damaged. Additionally, the Office of Risk Management will receive $6,162,038 to restore McNeese State University's Quadrant D building, and $3,944,438 for repairs to the main campus of McNeese State University.
Furthermore, Lake Charles will receive $1,146,677 to repair damages to Buddy Prejean Park resulting from Hurricane Laura.
