Senators John Kennedy (R-La.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) have introduced the Protecting Life in Foreign Assistance Act, a bill aimed at stopping the funding of abortions overseas. The legislation seeks to codify the Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance policy, also known as the Mexico City Policy, which prohibits the funding of foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that perform or promote abortions.

The Mexico City Policy was first established by President Ronald Reagan and has been rescinded and reinstated by different administrations over the years.
