Lafayette, LA – Bluebird Drive will be closed at the bridge crossing between Comeaux Recreation Center and Ovey Comeaux High School (OCHS) starting on Monday, February 5, 2024. This first phase of the closure is estimated to remain in place for two months.

According to the Lafayette Department of Transportation, this closure is necessary to connect the new pavement section, which is currently under construction, to the existing bridge structure. The closure will then move to the west side of the park for another two months, resulting in a total closure period of four months, possibly extending due to weather-related work stoppages.

Motor vehicles will need to access OCHS via alternative routes during the closure. The suggested routes include E. Martial Avenue or Digby Avenue, or East Bluebird Drive coming from Camellia Boulevard. Detour signs will be prominently displayed to guide drivers along the alternative routes.

In a statement, the Lafayette Department of Transportation emphasized the importance of this closure in ensuring the safety and efficiency of Bluebird Drive. They stated, "The closure is necessary to connect the new pavement section to the existing bridge structure and will help improve the overall infrastructure in the area."

Residents and commuters are advised to plan their routes accordingly and allow for extra travel time during the closure period. The Lafayette Department of Transportation assures that every effort will be made to minimize inconvenience and complete the construction as efficiently as possible.

For more information and updates on the closure, residents are encouraged to visit the Lafayette Department of Transportation's website or contact their office directly.

With the upcoming Bluebird Drive closures, the Lafayette community will face temporary inconveniences but will ultimately benefit from improved infrastructure and road conditions.
