Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) has introduced the Peace and Tolerance in Palestinian Education Act in an effort to address concerns about the teaching of inaccurate and racist content about Israel and the Jewish people in Palestinian classrooms. The bill aims to ensure that U.S. taxpayer dollars do not fund schools that promote hate and incite violence against Israel.

In a statement, Kennedy expressed his concern about the influence of Hamas and its radical ideology on the Palestinian education system. He stated, "The Palestinian people suffer because of Hamas and its radical ideology. The Peace and Tolerance in Palestinian Education Act would ensure that not a single U.S. taxpayer dollar goes to schools that teach young children the same hate that inspired the Oct. 7 attacks against Israel."

The Peace and Tolerance in Palestinian Education Act would require the Secretary of State to submit annual reports examining the curricula used in Palestinian schools. These reports will assess whether the materials promote racist violence against the Jewish people and whether U.S. foreign aid is inadvertently supporting such content.

This is not the first time Kennedy has introduced this legislation. He initially introduced the bill in 2021 after reports surfaced about the teaching of antisemitic material by United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) teachers. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has cosponsored the bill, demonstrating bipartisan support for addressing this issue.

The text of the Peace and Tolerance in Palestinian Education Act is available for review on the official government website.
