Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana has announced $9.2 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grants for emergency protective measures in Calcasieu Parish. The funds are intended to assist in the recovery and resilience efforts of the community, which has been severely impacted by Hurricane Laura and other storms.

In a statement, Senator Kennedy expressed his gratitude for the aid, acknowledging the ongoing challenges faced by the region. He stated, "Hurricane Laura and other storms have rocked southwest Louisiana over the years, and many communities are still recovering. I'm grateful to see this $9.2 million help Calcasieu Parish rebuild and stay resilient in the face of future storms."

The FEMA aid will be allocated to specific projects within Calcasieu Parish. The largest portion, amounting to $6,358,144, will be designated for repairs to Sulphur High School, which suffered significant damage as a result of Hurricane Laura. This funding will enable the necessary repairs to be carried out, ensuring that students and faculty have a safe and conducive learning environment.

Additionally, $2,666,025 will be allocated for the purchase of 18 permanent industrial emergency generators. These generators will serve as a crucial resource during times of power outages, providing essential electricity for critical facilities and services in the parish. The remaining $148,113 will be used to cover management and engineering costs associated with the acquisition of these generators.

The announcement of these grants is a significant step forward for Calcasieu Parish as it continues to recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Laura. The funding will not only aid in the restoration of essential infrastructure but also contribute to the long-term resilience of the community.

The impact of natural disasters on communities can be long-lasting, often requiring substantial resources for recovery and rebuilding. The allocation of these FEMA grants demonstrates a commitment to supporting the affected areas and ensuring their ability to withstand future storms.

As Calcasieu Parish moves forward with its recovery efforts, the assistance provided by Senator Kennedy and the federal government will play a vital role in rebuilding the community and fostering a sense of security for its residents.
