Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) has strongly criticized the Biden administration's decision to pause permitting for liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, calling it "energy suicide" for America and the West. Kennedy, the ranking member of the Energy and Water Subcommittee on Appropriations, expressed his concerns about the moratorium and accused President Biden of being influenced by a faction of "neo-socialist Americans."

Kennedy stated, "President Biden has been a sock puppet for a faction of neo-socialist Americans who think our country was wicked when it was founded and that it's even more wicked today." He further added that this faction, along with the President's assistance, aims to tear down and rebuild the country as they see fit, jeopardizing America's hard-earned energy independence.

The senator criticized the new energy policy under Biden, suggesting that instead of utilizing America's own oil and gas resources, the administration prefers to buy energy from countries that harbor animosity towards the United States. Kennedy warned that this decision would not only harm the American economy but also put the nation's security at risk. He argued, "Those countries that hate us will have more money to buy weapons to try to kill us."

Kennedy emphasized the negative impact of the moratorium, stating, "This new moratorium is going to hurt our economy, it's going to hurt the American people, and it's going to hurt our friends, particularly in Europe." He expressed his frustration with the situation, saying, "Stupidity should hurt more. I've watched President Biden do a lot of foolish things, but it's clear to me with this decision that it's getting worse. President Biden—he's worse than he used to be, and he wasn't great then."

The senator has been actively opposing the Biden administration's stance on LNG production. In a Wall Street Journal op-ed, Kennedy vowed to block President Biden's nominees to the State Department and the Department of Energy until the administration changes its approach towards LNG. Along with his colleagues, Kennedy urged the administration to reverse its decision to pause permitting for LNG export facilities, citing the threat it poses to the industry. Among the projects affected by the moratorium is Louisiana's Calcasieu Pass 2.

Kennedy had previously warned the Department of Energy about the burdensome permitting process before the Biden administration's decision to halt LNG export facility permitting. In an op-ed from April 2021, he highlighted Louisiana's potential to meet the global demand for LNG through its energy production.

The senator's remarks reflect his concerns about the impact of the moratorium on the American economy and national security. He firmly believes that the Biden administration's energy policy is misguided and detrimental to the country's interests. Kennedy's efforts to address these issues are rooted in his commitment to protecting America's energy independence and ensuring a robust and secure energy sector.
