MADISONVILLE, La. – Senator John Kennedy (R-La.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, revealed today that $12,570,868 in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grants will be allocated for Louisiana disaster aid. The funds are set to aid in the recovery efforts of areas affected by Hurricane Ida.
Senator Kennedy emphasized the significance of this financial assistance, stating, "When Hurricane Ida hit, she battered community buildings and local infrastructure that folks in southeast Louisiana have had to rebuild. This $12.6 million will support the recovery work that Jefferson and Terrebonne Parishes have been doing for the last two-and-a-half years."
The distribution of the FEMA aid includes $5,949,347 earmarked for Terrebonne Parish to address damages to the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center caused by Hurricane Ida. Additionally, the South Louisiana Electric Cooperative Association will receive $3,984,666 for the permanent restoration of electrical transmission and distribution lines and associated equipment. Jefferson Parish is allocated $2,636,855 for the replacement of Fire Station #11, a direct result of the impact of Hurricane Ida.
This financial injection is expected to provide crucial support to the ongoing recovery and rebuilding efforts in the affected regions, offering a lifeline to the communities striving to overcome the devastation wrought by Hurricane Ida.
