MONROE, La. – Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, engaged with constituents at the Monroe Chamber and West Monroe-West Ouachita Chambers luncheon to discuss their priorities for northeast Louisiana, particularly focusing on delivering economic wins for the area.
During the luncheon, Senator Kennedy emphasized his commitment to securing necessary funding for Louisiana, stating, “I sit on the Appropriations Committee. I never ask for a penny more than [Louisiana] needs, but I never, ever accept a penny less than we deserve—and I’ll continue to do that.”
In his role as an appropriator, Kennedy has successfully secured significant wins for northeast Louisiana since 2022. These accomplishments include securing $219 million from the Department of Transportation to enhance highways, roads, and local airports in Monroe and Bastrop. Additionally, Kennedy facilitated $54.5 million in Department of Education grants and health and science research grants for post-secondary institutions such as Louisiana Tech, Grambling University, and Louisiana Delta Community College.
Furthermore, the region benefited from $10.8 million allocated by the Department of Agriculture for research, conservation, and business development, as well as $10.7 million aimed at improving economic conditions through grants from the Economic Development Administration and Small Business Administration. Kennedy also directed $8 million in investments from the Delta Regional Authority towards road improvement projects and a rail spur at the Port of Columbia.
The luncheon provided an opportunity for Senator Kennedy to engage directly with constituents and gather feedback on the needs and priorities of northeast Louisiana. His efforts as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee have demonstrated a commitment to advocating for resources that drive economic growth and development in the region.
