Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) has launched a comprehensive debris pickup program in the wake of a recent storm that affected Lafayette Parish. The initiative includes a thorough collection schedule and specific guidelines for residents to follow.

The collection efforts have already begun and will continue, including weekends, until completion. Due to the excess volume of debris caused by the storm, pickups may not occur on regular collection days, but LCG assures residents that all debris will be addressed.

The types of debris eligible for collection include yard waste such as limbs, branches, and cut-up trunks/logs, as well as construction debris like small amounts of neatly-piled fence boards and roof shingles.

Residents are instructed to separate their debris and place it at least three feet away from obstructions like fire hydrants and mailboxes. Debris should not be placed under power lines or in drainage ditches. Mixing yard waste with other types of debris could potentially delay its removal.

Piles of trash that are not related to the storm will not be removed under this program.

To prevent accidents, residents are urged not to place debris under power lines, near gas meters, or close to fire hydrants. Compliance with these guidelines is crucial for the efficient and safe collection of debris.

For any questions about the debris pickup schedule or if assistance is needed with tree or debris removal, residents can call 311 or 232-HELP/211 respectively. They can also fill out a form available at https://www.tfaforms.com/4846998.
