Lafayette, LA – The Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) is continuing its efforts to address the extensive debris left by the recent May storms. LCG has deployed 16 contract trucks and two in-house trucks daily for debris collection. As of June 6, crews have collected approximately 9,000 cubic yards of debris, representing 50% of the total. Contractors expect to complete the first round of debris pickup throughout the city and unincorporated areas within the next two weeks.

Debris collection is ongoing, including weekends, until completion. Due to high volumes, removal may not occur on regular collection days.

The types of debris being collected include yard waste such as limbs, branches, and cut-up trunks/logs, and construction debris like small amounts of neatly-piled fence boards and roof shingles confirmed as storm-generated by LCG.

Residents are instructed to separate all debris at least three feet away from obstructions like fire hydrants and mailboxes and avoid placing it under power lines or in drainage ditches. Mixing yard waste with other types of debris will delay removal. Non-storm-related trash piles will not be removed.

For safety reasons, residents should avoid placing debris under power lines or near gas meters and fire hydrants. Adhering to these guidelines is crucial for efficient and safe collection.

Residents can call 311 or 337-291-8517 with any questions about debris pickup. For tree or debris removal assistance, contact 232-HELP or 211 or fill out this form: https://www.tfaforms.com/4846998.
