Mayor-President Boulet announces new appointments to Lafayette Housing Authority

Lafayette, LA – Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet has announced the appointment of Alterman “Chip” Jackson, Conrad Comeaux, and Maisha Chargois Drexler to the Lafayette Housing Authority (LHA) Board of Commissioners. These individuals bring extensive experience and dedication to their new roles, furthering the mission of the LHA to create, preserve, and expand quality, affordable housing opportunities throughout Lafayette.

Alterman “Chip” Jackson is a native of New York City with an extensive background in higher education. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Lincoln University and a master’s degree in Counseling from Millersville University. Chip's career spans over four decades with significant roles including Director of Admissions and Assistant Dean of the Graduate School at Hahnemann University School of Medicine (currently Drexel University College of Medicine), and Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at Harrisburg Area Community College. Since relocating to Lafayette, he has contributed greatly to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, retiring as the University Registrar in 2015. Chip has been actively involved in numerous community boards and organizations.

Conrad Comeaux brings more than 23 years of experience as the Lafayette Parish Tax Assessor and a former Parish Councilman for 12 years. Conrad has a master’s and bachelor’s degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now UL Lafayette), and a Master of Healthcare Administration from Tulane University. His extensive experience with housing issues will be highly valuable to the LHA Board.

Maisha Chargois Drexler has a robust background in public administration and healthcare. She earned her MPA with a minor in Health Care Administration from Southern University and has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from UL Lafayette. Currently, Maisha serves as the Firm Administrator at The Health Law Center where she oversees administrative operations, human resources, and financial management. She most recently served as a board member of the Lafayette Parish Waterworks District South.

The LHA Board of Commissioners is appointed by the Mayor-President and serves as the governing body that determines policies and resolutions for the LHA. The five-member board approves decisions guiding current and future programs while authorizing actions by the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer. Commissioners serve staggered five-year terms on a volunteer basis.

Mayor-President Boulet expressed her confidence in the new appointees: "Appointing qualified individuals to these positions is crucial for ensuring effective governance and strategic decision-making as the Lafayette Housing Authority directly impacts Lafayette’s housing stability and future development opportunities. Chip, Conrad, and Maisha each bring unique skills and perspectives that will greatly benefit the LHA."
