Lafayette, LA – Earlier this week, the Lafayette Police Department (LPD) issued communication concerning the UL Science Museum, a facility owned by the Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) and managed entirely by the University of Louisiana in accordance with the 2022 Cooperative Endeavor Agreement. To clarify LPD’s responsibility in and around the facility, Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet requested an evaluation from LCG City-Parish Attorney Pat Ottinger.

In communication with Dr. E. Joseph Savoie and university officials, several key points were highlighted:

The UL Police Department is certified under the Federal Clery Act, which "requires colleges and universities to report campus crime data, support victims of violence and publicly outline the policies and procedures they have put into place to improve campus safety."

All 911 calls made from the UL Science Museum are received directly by the UL Police Department.

The UL Police Department is responsible for the security of all activities at the UL Science Museum and its immediate area.

Mayor-President Boulet emphasized that LPD's role at each of UL’s campus facilities in Lafayette is supportive when called upon.
