Annual Rain Barrel Sale in Lafayette Promotes Water Conservation

Lafayette Utilities System and Lafayette Consolidated Government’s Environmental Quality Division have joined forces for the annual Spring Rain Barrel Sale in Lafayette, Louisiana. The initiative aims to promote water conservation and reduce environmental impact by offering residents the opportunity to purchase rain barrels at discounted rates.

According to the organizers, "Rain barrels help to conserve water, reduce water bills, and reduce stormwater run-off that would pollute nearby bodies of water. Rainwater can be used for houseplants, flower beds, gardens, bathing pets, and washing cars." This simple yet effective method of collecting rainwater offers a practical solution for everyday water needs.

The pricing structure for the rain barrels is designed to encourage participation from residents. "The price for Lafayette and unincorporated Lafayette residents is $50 for the first barrel and $65 for each additional barrel. Other Acadiana residents will have to pay $65 per barrel." This tiered pricing system aims to make the barrels accessible to a wide range of individuals within the community.

Interested individuals are encouraged to act promptly as supplies are limited. The deadline to place an order is April 15, with a cap set at 300 barrels. Residents can pick up their barrels at the Dean Domingues Compost Facility on May 4, 2024, providing ample time for preparation before the summer months.

For those seeking further details or looking to participate in this water-saving initiative, additional information can be found at the official website: https://www.lafayettela.gov/public-works/rain-barrel-program.
