Lafayette, LA – The Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) has announced the temporary closure of the E. Lewis Street Bridge. This closure will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, and continue until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 24.
The purpose of this closure is to complete the final phase of a project that includes applying an epoxy-urethane coating to seal the bridge deck and add a friction course. This work aims to extend the lifespan of the structure.
Earlier this month, LCG confirmed that the E. Lewis Street Bridge on the UL Lafayette Campus had reopened after undergoing several repairs. These included strengthening and painting steel girders Vermilion Red, concrete patching, constructing new drainage catch basins, creating ADA-compliant sidewalk slopes leading up to the bridge, and sealing and coating the deck.
The upcoming application of an epoxy-urethane coating is planned for a weekend to minimize traffic disruption.
