Lafayette, LA – The Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) has announced the closure of the warming center at Dupuis Recreation Center on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 8:30 AM. This decision follows an improvement in weather conditions.

The center's operation was part of an emergency plan by the newly established Lafayette Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP). The plan was finalized just a week before its implementation, highlighting a rapid response from all parties involved.

Since opening on January 5, the facility has sheltered over 70 individuals facing homelessness or insufficient heating during the cold spell. LCG expressed gratitude to community partners such as Catholic Charities, ARCH, Second Harvest, American Red Cross, and Lafayette City Marshal for their support. Volunteers and donors also played a crucial role by providing meals and hygiene kits.

LCG and OHSEP will continue to monitor weather patterns and work with local organizations to meet future needs. Community support remains vital for ensuring resident safety in Lafayette Parish.
