Enrollment in Lafayette Parish School District schools increased over previous year

The only school district in Lafayette Parish had rising enrollment in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

There were 31,587 students in the halls of Lafayette Parish School District schools, 0.6% higher than the year before.

Enrollment in Lafayette Parish bucked the state’s trend of decreasing enrollment.

Out of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 51.1% of them were boys, and 48.9% were girls.

The most represented ethnicity among Lafayette Parish School District students was white, accounting for 44.1% of the student population.

Lafayette Parish School District has a main office in Lafayette and is the only school district within Lafayette Parish.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 18 students in Louisiana, which is worse than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students.

The majority of Louisiana students were either white (48%) or Black (37%) in the 2021-22 school year.
