Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, has announced $14,380,438 in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grants for Louisiana disaster aid. The funds will provide much-needed assistance to the areas affected by Hurricanes Laura and Ida.

In a statement, Kennedy expressed his gratitude for the aid, stating, "Louisianians in Calcasieu, Lafourche, and Terrebonne Parishes have been working hard to recover from Hurricanes Laura and Ida. I'm grateful to see this $14.4 million help them rebuild."

The FEMA aid will be allocated to various projects in the affected parishes. Terrebonne Parish will receive $6,786,372 to restore streetlights and decorative lights damaged during Hurricane Ida. This funding will contribute to the recovery efforts and enhance the safety of the community.

The Calcasieu Parish School Board will receive $4,221,346 for repairs to the S.J. Welsh Middle School, which was heavily damaged by Hurricane Laura. This funding will ensure that students have a safe and conducive learning environment as they continue their education.

Lafourche Parish will receive $2,202,877 to repair damages to the Golden Meadow Park baseball fields caused by Hurricane Ida. This funding will allow the community to restore an important recreational facility that has been a source of joy for residents.

Additionally, the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux will receive $1,169,843 for the temporary relocation of Vandebilt Catholic High School, which was necessitated by the impact of Hurricane Ida. This funding will support the continuation of education for the students affected by the storm.

The allocation of these funds is a significant step towards the recovery and rebuilding of the affected areas in Louisiana. The support from FEMA will not only address the immediate needs but also contribute to the long-term resilience of these communities.

As Louisiana continues its journey towards recovery, the assistance provided by Senator Kennedy and FEMA will play a crucial role in helping the affected communities rebuild and move forward.
