MADISONVILLE, La. – Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) released a statement in response to the Supreme Court's ruling in Trump v. Anderson concerning Colorado's attempt to exclude former President Donald Trump from the state's 2024 presidential ballot.

In his statement, Sen. Kennedy expressed his support for the Supreme Court's decision, saying, “The Supreme Court is right to unanimously rebuke Colorado for trying to stop people from voting for President Trump. The Colorado court made its decision in bad faith, for political reasons." He emphasized the importance of democracy by adding, “Protecting democracy means letting Americans vote for who they want."

Highlighting the uniqueness of the American democratic process, Sen. Kennedy remarked, “This is not Russia or China or countries whose Powerball jackpot is 287 chickens and a goat. This is America." He further stressed the significance of upholding democratic principles, stating, “We don’t use the courts to deny people the right to run for office or to deny our people the right to vote for their candidate."

Sen. Kennedy concluded his statement by praising the Supreme Court's ruling, describing it as a “victory for the rule of law, the Constitution, democracy and common sense."
