Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana has announced nearly $9.5 million in federal grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support disaster recovery efforts in the state. These funds are designated for repairing damages caused by Hurricanes Laura and Ida.

"Hurricanes Laura and Ida left behind massive damage to key utilities across south Louisiana. This $9.5 million will help Louisianians cover the costs of restoring education facilities, streetlights, utility poles and water control structures," stated Kennedy.

The allocation includes $4,020,823 directed to the Office of Risk Management for repairs to Grand Chenier water control structures damaged by Hurricane Laura, enhancing their resilience. Additionally, $3,567,010 is allocated to address Hurricane Ida-related damages at Southeastern Louisiana University campuses. Furthermore, $1,880,865 is provided to the South Louisiana Electric Cooperative Association for repairs to streetlights and utility poles affected by Hurricane Ida.
