Senator John Kennedy's attempt to extend the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) through September 30, 2025, was blocked by the Senate. The Louisiana senator, who is part of the Senate Appropriations Committee, sought unanimous consent for his bill but did not succeed.

Kennedy emphasized the significance of the NFIP for many residents in his state. "The National Flood Insurance Program, as I think most people know, isn’t perfect, but it’s important," he stated. He highlighted areas such as Grand Isle and Port Fourchon in Louisiana where middle-class Americans depend on this program.

The NFIP is crucial for over 4 million Americans nationwide, including more than 400,000 residents of Louisiana who rely on it to safeguard their homes and businesses.
