Keep Lafayette Beautiful is gearing up for its 40th annual Trash Bash event, calling on volunteers to join in the community cleanup effort. The organization, in collaboration with LafayetteConsolidated Government, Bayou Vermilion District, and Parish Proud, is seeking participants of all ages to help beautify Lafayette by cleaning streets, parks, and waterways on April 20 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

According to the announcement, "All are invited to take part in beautifying Lafayette by cleaning its streets, parks and waterways while enjoying the 'bash' afterwards with a free t-shirt and lunch."

Volunteers are encouraged to register by calling 337-291-5637 or emailing recycling@lafayettela.gov. Neighborhood groups, scouts, nonprofits, and businesses are urged to select a location within Lafayette Parish to clean up litter, with no cost to participate.

For those interested in cleaning up the Bayou Vermilion, a limited number of canoes are available for reservation. The cleanup effort will kick off at the Bayou Vermilion District’s Begnaud House, where volunteers can pick up supplies such as gloves, litter bags, grabbers, and high-visibility vests.

Volunteers are advised to bring their own durable water bottle, wear closed-toe shoes, and apply sunscreen. Those who reserve canoes will also be provided with paddles, life vests, and transportation upstream.

The Recycling Office at 400 Dugas Road is available for volunteers to pick up supplies ahead of the event, and for more information or to suggest a project site, individuals can contact the office at 337-291-5637 or recycling@lafayettela.gov.

In the words of Keep Lafayette Beautiful, "Let's come together as a community to keep Lafayette beautiful and clean for everyone to enjoy."
