The City of Lafayette, Louisiana, is set to be an official stop on the National League of Cities (NLC) Centennial Roadshow: 100 Years, 100 Cities. This initiative forms part of NLC's year-long celebration, commemorating a century of dedication to advancing local government and advocating for the interests of cities, towns, and villages across the nation.
The roadshow, orchestrated by NLC, includes stops at 100 cities in every region of the country. Its purpose is to highlight the diversity, resilience, and transformation of America’s local communities. The roadshow began its journey in February at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas - where NLC was founded. Over the forthcoming months, it will tour from coast-to-coast, making stops in cities of all sizes to showcase unique stories from municipalities like Lafayette.
"We are thrilled to welcome the National League of Cities to Lafayette as part of their Centennial Roadshow,” expressed Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet. “This event marks a significant opportunity for our city to showcase our initiatives and innovations."
Clarence Anthony, CEO and Executive Director of the National League of Cities echoed this sentiment stating: “It is truly an honor for NLC to visit remarkable municipalities like Lafayette that have made significant contributions to the advancement of local government over the past 100 years. Each city has played a pivotal role in moving our local communities forward and each has a unique story that showcases transformative change. As we celebrate and chart a course for the next 100 years, I am more excited than ever for the future of cities, towns, and villages and look forward to continuing important work together.”
The roadshow will arrive in Lafayette on June 3rd, 2024. It will then continue its journey across various American cities including Tampa Florida where NLC will host its annual City Summit conference this November.
