Lafayette, LA – The community of Lafayette is mourning the loss of Judge Jules D. Edwards III, who passed away on October 15, 2024. With over three decades of service to the judicial system, Judge Edwards leaves a significant legacy in the legal community and among those he served.

Judge Douglas J. Saloom expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Judge Edwards, saying, "The passing of Judge Edwards this past evening closes a chapter written by a remarkable person, whose life and career were dedicated to his family, his faith, his profession, and most preciously his country and community. His passing leaves us, his friends, staff and colleagues, with a challenge to carry forward those principles he so passionately shared with all he touched."

Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet reflected on Judge Edwards' dedication: "Judge Jules Edwards served with joy and passion as he tackled some of our most complex issues. He was determined to make a difference in the lives of those most in need while holding those of us who worked with him to the highest standards of service. We will miss his leadership and his friendship in our community."

City Marshal Reggie Thomas described Judge Edwards as "a legend in the City of Lafayette," noting that "he paved the way for so many and was a true friend to me." Thomas added that "Judge Edwards’ career speaks for itself – he loved his work, his family, and his country and he served honorably."

Kelly Mouisset, City Court Administrator, also paid tribute: "Judge Edwards was one of the most amazing judges that I have ever had the pleasure to serve alongside. He was a man of integrity with such a strong faith. His absence will be felt by all who knew him."

Judge Edwards' contributions have left an indelible mark on Lafayette's legal landscape.
