Lafayette, LA – The Lafayette Consolidated Government, along with the Lafayette Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP), is set to open a warming center at Dupuis Recreation Center on January 19, 2025. This initiative aims to provide shelter for those experiencing homelessness or lacking adequate heat as freezing temperatures approach.
The warming center will begin operations at 6:00 pm on Sunday evening. Community partners are working together to ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable individuals during this cold weather event.
Individuals in need of warm shelter can go to St. Joseph Diner starting at 5:30 pm on January 19 to be transported to the warming center. Alternatively, they can arrive directly at the Dupuis Recreation Center at Brown Park from 6:00 pm onwards. The centers will remain operational until temperatures rise above freezing.
